We discuss some technical aspects and the place of angiography in the risk stratification of the coronary patient comparing conservative and invasive strategies. It is suggested that a progressively more important role will be played by the general practitioner regarding indication, interpretation and therapeutic decision, sharing responsibilities with the cardiologist and the patient. With increased facilities for coronary angiography and increased ad hoc angioplasties, observed at present, the GP should also be responsible for proper selection of the reference cardiologists and hospitals.
